VERSE:
1 John 4:10 (New International Version)
10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

LESSON:
So, what is the nature of Love, and where does Love come from? A physician or scientist might propose that Love comes from a certain region of the brain and is simply an emotional feeling that we experience, based upon an electro-chemical stimulus that occurs naturally and randomly within the brain.
But does that really answer the question? If you have ever loved someone, or been loved by someone else, the answer would most probably be "No".
This Bible verse offers us more than the "electro-chemical" scientific answer. It tells us that the source of Love is God. It further tells us that we received Love first from God, and not the other way around. God demonstrated his love for us by sending his Son to die for our sins. God's Love covered our sins. We learn to truly "Love" by emulating God's love for us as we love others. Yes, you can experience an "electro-chemical" feeling without God. But can you truly "Love" someone else without knowing God? I would suggest, no, not in the way that God intended us to Love others.
