Who do we try to emulate (imitate)?

VERSE:

3 John 1:4 and 3 John 1:11

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

LESSON:

I have taken two verses from the same chapter...in order to make a point...and to keep you from having to read more than you may have time to read. We as parents (each of your moms and dads), do take great joy in knowing that each of you are Christians...and are active in your faith. We are joyful not because we are proud of anything we my have said or done to bring you to your faith today...but joyful because you are Christians and do have strong faith, which throughout your life will be a blessing to you. A word of advice now that you are on your own and away from home...keep the faith...and do not allow yourself to be influenced by those who are without faith. This verse cautions us "...do not imitate what is evil but what is good...". Carefully analyze what others around you say and do to discern whether he/she does what is good or what is evil. This verse instructs us that "...Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God...". Think about these Biblical statements. They are simple, but direct, and perhaps in our culture today, slightly "politically incorrect", but they are entirely true.
