Submission to the Authorities
1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

Where do governing authorities get their authority?
In America...some would say..."The Constitution". That would be a correct statement, however, where did the founders of America get their authority to establish the American form of government that they did? This verse should make that quite clear. It says "...for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God...". Because of this fact, we are called as Christians to "submit" "...to the governing authorities...." We are also warned that "...he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted...".
