VERSE:
Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
LESSON:
In this verse, we are told that the Bible is much more than that. "...For the word of God is living and active...". This verse seems to be trying to tell us that the Bible is "timeless". It applies to every age...through every century. Look at the descriptions given in this verse. It is not described as a passive old set of worn out fairy tales or stories...it is described as "...sharper than any double-edged sword...". An interesting 2nd description is "...it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit...". (We need to research that one a bit more...It is very interesting). But, probably the most powerful description in this verse is the final part of the verse..."...it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart...". I am NOT aware of any psychology book, or Psychologist for that matter, who can claim that they are able to do that about the "...thoughts and attitudes of the heart".
