VERSE:
Proverbs 26:4
4 Don't answer fools when they speak foolishly,
or you will be just like them.
LESSON:
This lesson is not intended to be used to insult anyone. Future lessons will discuss how we are accountable for what we may say about others. This verse encourages us to demonstrate restraint and to learn the wisdom of silence...when not talking is actually the best course of action. First, you need the wisdom to notice that someone else is speaking foolishly. Secondly, you must have the restraint to hold your tongue (more about that tongue tomorrow). If we foolishly and directly answer back someone who speaks to us foolishly...then we become just like them.
