VERSE:
Psalm 139:23-24 (New International Version)
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
LESSON:
This verse is attributed to King David. If you read the entire Psalm 139, you will see that David's answer would be "Yes". God wants to know...and indeed knows everything about us. Even our thoughts and feelings. Imagine this, even knowing that much about us...God still loves us.
In this verse, King David knows that...and because he know that...and wants God to remain ever close to him, he asks God to do two things for him.
1) Know his thoughts and what is in his heart and;
2) See if God can find any "sin" in those thoughts/heart...so that God can lead him "...in the way everlasting".
King David is asking God to point out any sins he may have in his thoughts/feelings...so that David can change his thoughts...and NOT sin against God. This should be one of our daily prayers.
