VERSE:
Isaiah 53:3-4 (New International Version)
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
LESSON:
What kind of a person was predicted in the Old Testament that we know of as The Messiah?
This verse paints a very difficult picture of The Messiah or The Christ. However, it is an appropriate study for the Holy Week, just prior to Good Friday and Easter Sunday. What a difference from the wonderful and triumphant entry into the Holy City on Palm Sunday. Oh how things can change quickly in this world when human beings are involved. As we will see in later lessons, what man plans for evil...God makes into good.
