VERSE:
Matthew 24:4-5 (New International Version)
4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[or Messiah]' and will deceive many.
LESSON:
What did Jesus warn about others in the future calling themselves Christ or the Messiah? In this verse Jesus warned his disciples that others would come "...in my name..." claiming to be the "Christ" OR the "Messiah", and many would be deceived. There are many religions today who have a founder or leader that either directly or indirectly claimed that they have come in Jesus' name. We should all be warned of this possibility...so that we are not deceived.
